I crafted this pair of Beautiful traditional handcrafted repoussé copper. “The Aughiskys “Irish water horses ( they are not a mirror pair ). Framed in vintage round honey oak frames with a copper backing,
This is a traditional Celtic- handcrafted copper, representing a continuation of a long tradition of Celtic arts, which began with my ancient forefathers, “The Ancient Celts”, crafted with Celtic magic in an ancient, honoured tradition
“The Aughisky Each-Uisce, Irish water horse
Throughout the lands where Gaelic was spoken, the legend of the water horse was whispered by many a fireside. They are sometimes told in a hurry by someone running in the other direction of a lake! There are many lakes in Ireland; most aren’t very large, but they run still, dark and deep.
The Each-Uisce, a water horse or horse-eel known in the old language, is thought to have the upper body & head of a horse with front legs and web feet, along with a long sinuous fish body with a large fishtail. They would often hide in the deep lakes, generally coming out at night. Their black hide glistens in the starlight. The water horse is said to have eaten the farmers’ crops, occasionally eating their animals!
Older tales tell how the water horse would wait in the shallows for someone to come along, thinking it was a real horse. The person would learn far too late of their mistake, finding themselves in water far more profound than they thought. The Each-Uisce’s would then carry the person away into the murky crushing depth, never to be seen again. They leave nothing of the person behind, just a few strange tracks by the water’s edge.
But the stranger is how these stories haven’t faded with time, but rather more of them seem to be cropping up.
The copper wall art is so beautiful in its simplicity. Handcrafted in pure copper, oxidised to bring out the aged copper patina colours, the effect is warm and understated and would complement any home decor style. This elegant copper art will bring you joy and is perfect for placing in a prominent position on the wall of a living room, entrance, or anywhere.
. I am trying to keep the art of copper repousse alive. Copper repousse is among the skills that are all but a lost, forgotten art.
Just as in nature, there will be flaws. I tend to be drawn to the ‘wear,’ finding it infinitely more beautiful and exciting than the flawless perfection of manufactured pieces.
.This copper art is crafted to order; The copper artwork can be crafted in different sizes if the client desires.
