Welcome to Celtic Copper Craft! My name is Tom, and I have the pleasure of being the artist and owner behind this endeavour. Originally from Ireland, I have spent many years living in Australia, where I have honed my skills in the art of copper repousse as a self-taught craftsman.
I take pride in specialising in exquisite copper artwork, with my fine art sculptures receiving recognition and admiration worldwide. My designs embody a traditional, rustic, and organic aesthetic, emphasising the beauty of imperfections often found in nature. Repoussé copper is a time-honoured art form practised for thousands of years. This technique involves transferring a design onto a sheet of copper and shaping it from the back using a variety of basic tools. As you engage in this craft, you become part of a rich tradition that showcases the skill and creativity of artisans throughout history.
Once the tooling process is complete, the copper artwork is lovingly filled with beeswax sourced from local beekeepers, ensuring it retains its beautiful shape. The next step involves applying a patina, a transformative process that gives the copper its striking tonal appearance. Using common materials like salt, liver of sulfur, and vinegar, each piece becomes a unique work of art, radiating character and depth.
Finally the copper piece is polished to bring the design’s highlights to life, then lacquered, framed,. These stunning copper artworks stand apart from cheap, machine-made, mass-produced items, celebrating the beauty of craftsmanship and individuality.
